When I did these portraits I was looking to make different kinds of photos. It was my modus operandi to ask the person I was shooting to raise one of their hands until it was in the frame, in whatever way they wanted. Then I would “focus” by tilting and moving the wineglass lens. This one became a favorite for me because of its chalky/charcoal feeling.
