I made a few self portraits using my wineglass lenses for fun and decided to make a series out of them, as it is also a kind of category of art. In each I had to pre-focus the camera before shooting. In this one I wore a renaissance hat I had made several years earlier. I was in Vienna and impressed with portraits I’d seen in the museums. In fact I kept a postcard of one on my desk for years. On a whim I used my friend’s sewing machine and made a few dozen of these hats in various colors. I then walked through the bars and cafes of Vienna selling them, calling out „Hats for sale!“ in German. I gave many away to friends as well. I designed and made a stamp for each that had as its title, „New Renaissance“. You can see a picture of the stamp here.
